Need to exercise, but can’t hit the gym? There are also a variety of things you can do at home to facilitate your fitness journey. For example, if reducing belly fat is your main aim, you can have a look at these 10 Simple Exercises To Reduce Belly Fat at Home and fit in that pair of jeans!
Since you’re at home, you can actually make your workout so much fun. You can try your hand at Yoga, which so many fitness gurus swear by. Zumba and dance workouts are also super popular these days, they are so much fun and would actually make you look forward to your workout. Your home is your gym, and your laptop your trainer. There are various fitness videos and channels that you can easily find on YouTube. Some of our favourites include:
1. Pumpstart with Varun Dhawan
This 5-minute workout is the perfect thing to start your day with. It’s fun, energetic and honestly doesn’t even feel like a workout that you would dread every day.
2. Fitness Blender
Fitness Blender boasts of over 500 videos of varying duration, purposes and with different or no equipment.
3. Yoga with Adriene
If a Yoga video blog has almost 2 million subscribers, you know they are doing something right. Get your yoga on and stretch your woes away.
4. Just New
Just New has a plethora of dance and Zumba workouts, so you can dance your calories away!
And if all this is still way too boring for you, then the one sure shot way to make fitness fun is to get your friends to do it with you! Probably most of your friends have the same resolution as you, and dancing off to awesome beats with your best buddies? It’s like Saturday Disco Night, but at the comfort of your home with awesome company.
BUT DO YOU SEE, I AM AT COLLEGE ALL DAY LONG?
MY BOSS ISN’T GONNA GIVE ME AN OFF SO I CAN EXERCISE AT HOME?!
We get it, not everyone will get the time (or the will) to exercise at home or hit the gym.
Sitting on that desk all day long and staring at that screen or that blackboard is boring, why not switch that routine up?
1. Take the damn staircase?
SKIP THE ELEVATOR. Avoid those god awful awkward lift silences and TAKE THE DAMN STAIRS! Trust us, this makes a world of a difference, and it doesn’t even require any extra time or efforts.
2. Get a (Leg) Raise
While sitting, straighten your leg and hold for 10 seconds. Lower it almost to the floor, hold and repeat with the other leg.
3. Walk The Talk
And we mean that quite literally. Invest in a good headset and walk around while attending to official calls. In fact, take advantage of every opportunity you get to walk around!
Sitting in that same position is really bad for your posture. Take a quick stroll every now and then, stretch your arms and legs, rotate your neck. If you sit in a space where all your colleagues are sitting with you and you don’t want to seem creepy doing this, well, what are washrooms for?
You could try SamaVritti (Equal breathing). All you have to do is inhale for a count of four, then exhale for a count of four (all through the nose, which adds a natural resistance to the breath). Similarly, alternate nostril breathing also known as anulom/vilom pranayama (#RamdevSwag) is also great for work, as it helps not only de-stress but also supplies oxygen to the entire blood stream.
LASTLY, DON’T TAKE IT TOO FAR
Staying fit is just that, staying fit.
Don’t do it because some distant relative saw you after 15 years and commented ‘You’ve gained weight beta’.
Aunty, your useless opinion might be why we haven’t spoken for 15 years.
Don’t do it because society’s idea of a plus-sized model is actually just a regular healthy human being.
Don’t do it because you think you are fat. Remember, you need to focus on being healthy. It is okay to have a tiny bit of fat, it is okay to have curves (shoutout to the Kardashian/Jenner clan!), it is okay to not look like a wrestler on steroids.
Before getting started, go, look at the mirror and know that you are absolutely slaying it irrespective of some silly number on a weights scale. Go on, we’re waiting!
